Anders Sørensen, PhD, is a Danish clinical psychologist, researcher, and author specializing in psychiatric drug withdrawal. He helps people taper safely using gradual, hyperbolic dose reductions while working through any resurfacing emotions, difficult thought patterns, and trauma reactions in psychotherapy. His approach is trauma-informed and transdiagnostic, integrating insights across conditions rather than limiting support to specific diagnoses. For over a decade, he has run a dedicated tapering and psychotherapy clinic in Denmark, working with thousands of individuals navigating the challenges of withdrawal and recovery. His research on receptor-occupancy tapering and safe discontinuation strategies has been published in leading journals, and he collaborates internationally with clinicians, researchers, and policymakers to advance safe deprescribing. Author of Crossing Zero – The Art and Science of Coming Off – and Staying Off – Psychiatric Drugs, he is a leading international voice on safely deprescribing and on rethinking mental health beyond long-term medication and diagnostic labels. His broader vision is to help reshape mental health care toward compassion, autonomy, and recovery beyond medication.
