Dr. Sheri Balsam is a Postdoctoral Resident at the Center for Integrated Behavioral Health as of August 2018 under the supervision of Dr. Joanne Diacogiannis, Psy.D., ABPP. She earned her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Multicultural Psychology from Rutgers University, and completed her APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Temple University’s Tuttleman Counseling Services in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Balsam brings with her a wide range of clinical experience and has been trained in multiple therapeutic modalities. Dr. Balsam aims to meet the client where they are, primarily drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Third-Wave approaches to meet the client’s needs and utilize their personal strengths in order to cultivate meaningful change. She has particular interest in treating Borderline Personality Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and substance use issues (including ACOA). Dr. Balsam’s other clinical interests include relational concerns, multicultural issues, and identity exploration and development.
Dr. Balsam is passionate about providing effective, empirically-based, compassionate care. She has worked with individuals across all ages, but holds the most experience working with adolescents and adults. As a therapist, Dr. Balsam is genuine, warm, encouraging, and collaboratively works with the client to develop tools in order to live a life in accordance with their own personal values.
In addition to her pre-doctoral training, Dr. Balsam has completed training in various settings in the New Jersey and New York areas, including in adult inpatient and adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) units at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, the Alcohol Addiction and Treatment Research Program at the Rutgers School of Public Health, Drew University’s Counseling and Psychological Services, and a school-based and community mental health center located within a high school. Within these settings, Dr. Balsam has experiences providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy. Dr. Balsam is excited to be part of the team at the Center for Integrated Behavioral Health, continuing to provide effective treatment for clients and collaborate with other professionals across disciplines.
