Roshni N. Patel, M.A., is a doctoral student in the Psy.D. program in Counseling Psychology at Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown, NJ. She earned her M.A. in Psychology from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, and her B.S. in Neuroscience, with a minor in Public Health, from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. She currently serves as a Doctoral-level Extern working under the supervision and license of Dr. Rizwan Ahmad.
Roshni has developed her clinical foundation through experiences in outpatient psychological practices, medical settings, and community-based mental health initiatives. Her training in a neurofeedback practice sparked an interest in the connection between mind and body, while her experiences in psychotherapy and healthcare settings deepened her appreciation for looking beyond surface-level concerns to understand the broader context of an individual’s experiences.
At the center of Roshni’s developing therapeutic philosophy is the belief that therapy should treat the whole person rather than define an individual by a diagnosis or collection of symptoms. She is drawn to holistic approaches that consider the intersection of emotional well-being with physical health, relationships, culture, identity, environment, and significant life experiences. Rather than viewing symptom reduction as the sole measure of progress, Roshni sees therapy as an opportunity for clients to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, recognize the strengths they already possess, and explore meaningful ways to create change that supports both their mental health and overall well-being.
Roshni is particularly interested in how culture and identity shape the ways individuals understand, experience, and seek support for mental health. Her research examining psychological distress and stigma surrounding infertility among South Asian women reflects her interest in bringing greater understanding to experiences that can often remain unspoken. In the therapeutic environment, Roshni hopes to create a space where clients can show up as themselves, feel genuinely heard, and explore their experiences without feeling defined by them. Her goal is to meet each person where they are and work collaboratively alongside them toward a healthier, more fulfilling sense of self and well-being.
