Center for Integrated Behavioral Health’s Clinical Health and Rehabilitation Psychology Program was created to meet the psychological needs of people adjusting to injury or illness, living with disability, seeking to improve health habits, living with chronic illness, or caring for persons living with disability or chronic illness in the Lehigh Valley.

Populations we serve include persons:

  • Experiencing emotional difficulties following an injury (amputation, stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury)
  • Living with cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or other chronic illness
  • Coping with emotional or cognitive difficulties following a sports injury
  • Interested in health behavior change (weight loss, making dietary changes, smoking cessation, etc.)
  • Caregivers in need of support

Conditions that may be a focus of clinical intervention include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma-related symptoms
  • Cognitive Impairment
  • Insomnia
  • Pain Management

Treatment

The CHRP Center makes every effort to use evidence-based treatments as the standard of care.  The following treatment approaches are the most commonly utilized at this center:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Prolonged Exposure
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy
  • CBT for Insomnia
  • CBT for Chronic Pain Management
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Assessment

Every patient at the CHRP Center begins with an initial intake evaluation to review the reasons for treatment, history, patient goals, and to inform the treatment plan and recommendations.  Psychological testing services are also available.  The Center offers the following formal testing services:

  • Cognitive and Memory Testing
    • Identify and track progression of neurocognitive disorders (dementia)
    • Evaluation of preserved cognitive ability and areas of weakness following stroke or TBI, with tailored recommendations to improve daily functioning
    • Inform recovery and aid in coping following a concussion (mTBI)
  • Presurgical Clearance Evaluations
    • Solid Organ Transplant (Heart, Liver, Kidney)
    • LVAD Placement
    • Spinal Cord Stimulator
    • Bariatric Surgery
    • Elective Amputations
